Gauteng Department of Health is faced with a challenge as paramedics strike, saying their demands for payment for the extra hours they work have been ignored. The paramedics say that they work 192 hours a month instead of the prescribed 160 hours and unlike their counterparts in other provinces, they were not paid for the extra hours. One thing that bothers me about this is the fact that innocent patients suffer, but at the same time, paramedics also have rights.
